Fall Activities

On Saturday, after the first soccer game of the season, we decided that we'd spend the day doing something relaxing yet that we all loved. So we headed up to Warwick, NY. We go every year around this time. We decided to pass by the apple orchard and the dairy farm we love so much. We didn't do any apple picking but we did eat some apples. Shhh! But I do think you are allowed to eat as many as you want while you're there but I suppose they expect to buy a bag while your at it. So we cheated a bit! We ate some apples and then the kids climbed a tree and we fed the petting zoo animals some grass. Afterwards, we headed to the dairy farm where we took pictures of the beautiful cows. They are so gorgeous. One day when I finally have my farm in Montana I will have some of these beautiful creatures and I will be so happy. My husband thinks I'm nuts (mostly) but I believe I have him slowly turning my way. Anyway, so we finally ended up at The Iron Forge Inn. It is a 1700's house turned into a restaurant with an awesome Tap Room that serves really great food and it always has a fire burning this time of year. The smell of that wood and the coziness of the room is so relaxing. We had a wonderful, quiet and relaxing day. We'll be going back soon enough and I can't wait.

Miserable Allergies

Has anyone else been suffering with these awful allergies? My head was about ready to explode today. Between the leaky nose and the itchy eyes and then that damned sinus pressure I thought I'd go crazy today. We did end up going to Warwick today and it was so pleasant and beautiful that even though my allergies were bad I was fully at ease and very happy. I'll post more on that later. I've got pictures!

She did it!

My daughter made her debut as a Pee Wee cheerleader tonight. We are so proud of her. She has a tendency towards shyness and tonight you wouldn't have been able to tell. She did a great job. We look forward to the rest of the season. You made us proud little one!

What Would We Do Without the Infomercials

I know you've been tempted at one point or another. The "Sham-Wow!" You've seen them on the "As Seen On TV" shelves at Target and you've probably picked up a box and examined it and read all the amazing claims on the panels. You've considered it but probably put them back when you realize that they're $20+ after taxes and you've seen this guy's mugshot on "The Smoking Gun" website. I don't encourage violence. Well, most times I don't but this guy seems like he deserves a beating (oh wait, he already got one!). Even my frugal husband has been tempted by claims and the "quick camera change" infomercials. "It can do what?!" "Where's the phone 'cause I need those!" What's my point? What I'm saying is "That's some bullshit!"

Life Moves Fast

The kids have been back at school about a week and a half now. We are finally starting to settle in with the daily schedules and the evening activities and practices. So far so good. Before we know it the holidays will once again be upon us. It's been a tough year for many and I can only hope that the holidays will remind us of what we're really supposed to be thankful for. We tend to forget what's really important and I'm determined to continue to be mindful regardless of our situation whether financial or whatever. I believe most things happen for a reason and I have decided that nothing is more important than having a loving and close family and realizing that there's more to life than big houses, luxury cars and the Jones'. It's been one hell of a wake up call for many and I believe the universe is sending us a message. Snap out of it! Wake up and stop spoiling your kids and buying your happiness. Life is meant to be enjoyed and most of us tend to walk through life numb. Before we know it our children have grown up and we've missed it. I say we get back to what really makes us happy--Family and Friends and let's not forget Simplicity!

Good Food

I made this today. My son watches The Food Network with me and requested this meal after he saw Giada making it. It's a balsamic barbeque chicken recipe and it is delicious. I made some mashed potatoes and some steamed broccoli to go with it and it made for a very good meal. Mmmmm!

Dreams of Paris

One day.....for sure!

Attack of the Bees!

We had a great holiday weekend! We gathered for a picnic with friends and the kids on Sunday and had a really nice time but the bees were determined to get the best of us. We spent a good amount of the time fighting for territory. Someone would get smacked unexpectedly while trying to eat some KFC but it was meant with the best of intentions. The kids rode their bikes and played with branches and ate lots of junk. I wouldn't be surprised if, in the process, someone actually ate a bee or two. I think our neighboring picnicers thought we were nuts the way we went at those bees. But we had fun and that's all that counts!

School's On

It's official. School is back on. For the past few days we've been trying to get back on all kinds of schedules (going to bed, waking up, homework, dinner and practices). We've almost got it down. But, I'm exhausted from all the effort. My feet actually hurt. Why? I don't know! My daughter has cheering practice twice a week and soccer once a week. Even though soccer hasn't officially begun for her it feels as though it has. I think I need a break from it all already. It will be fine though, I'm sure. We have 3 days off for Labor Day weekend and I'm looking forward to the time off. Have a great holiday weekend!
